Solid value vs the legacy

CAD software pricing has been broken for two decades. Legacy seats run four to fifteen times higher than solidSF Pro and still require a Windows workstation, a separate CAM product, a separate drawings module, and an annual maintenance bill. The table below compares public annual costs at writing.

SolidWorks Standard runs $4,200+ per year for the desktop plan; SolidWorks Premium with simulation and routing climbs above $7,000/yr before PDM. Onshape Standard starts at $1,500/yr with public-only documents, and Professional reaches $2,500/yr for private projects. Fusion 360 Commercial is $545/yr but ties you to Autodesk's account system and forces you off the personal-use tier for paid work.

Student and ambassador codes

Students, educators, ambassadors, and partner communities can get coupon-linked access through uni.solidsf.com or through an invite link from solidSF. Codes may be one-time-use, email-tied, or link-pool based. The discount and duration are set when the code is generated.

Some codes can cover 100% of the subscription for a fixed period, but checkout still collects payment information through Stripe so billing can continue cleanly after the discount window ends.

Frequently asked questions

Is there a free trial?
New signups get a 48-hour full-feature trial. Saving parts, projects, and workspace data is disabled during trial until the account subscribes. Existing BETA users keep free full access.
Can I switch plans?
Yes. You can upgrade, downgrade, or cancel anytime from your account billing settings. Upgrades take effect immediately and are pro-rated. Downgrades take effect at the end of the current billing period. Your files and feature trees migrate without conversion.
Do you offer annual billing?
Yes. Annual billing on Pro is $290/user/year (two months free vs $29/mo). Team annual is $590/user/year. Enterprise contracts are annual by default with multi-year options. Annual plans are billed once up front; monthly plans are charged monthly via Stripe.
What payment methods do you accept?
Credit and debit cards through Stripe (Visa, Mastercard, American Express, Discover). Enterprise customers can pay by ACH, wire transfer, or purchase order. We do not currently accept crypto. International cards work; pricing is in USD.
What if I am a non-profit or educator?
Registered 501(c)(3) non-profits get 50% off Team and Enterprise plans. Verified educators (high school, vocational, university) get free Pro seats for classroom use through the same uni.solidsf.com pipeline that students use. Contact sales@solidsf.com to verify status.
How does the student tier work?
Student, educator, ambassador, and partner discounts are issued through uni.solidsf.com or admin-generated coupon links. Discounts can be time-limited, including 100% off for a fixed period, and are applied through Stripe checkout.
Can I self-host solidSF?
Yes, on the Enterprise tier. We support on-prem deployment via Docker/Kubernetes, BYOC (Bring Your Own Cloud) on AWS, GCP, or Azure, and air-gapped installations for regulated environments. Implementation typically takes 4 to 12 weeks depending on scope. Contact sales for technical scoping.
What about academic teams and classrooms?
Instructors can provision classroom workspaces with shared parts libraries, assignment templates, and per-student private projects. The classroom tier is free for accredited institutions up to 200 active student seats. Larger deployments and research labs get custom pricing. Apply at uni.solidsf.com.
